Sueno pequeno
Lately I've been having some real struggle getting to sleep at night and also getting back to sleep when waking up in the middle of the night. I know this isn't an uncommon occurrence in any way. So I thought I'd write a blog exploring some ideas around it.
As a species we underestimate the power and importance of sleep. Medical professionals knowledge is shockingly low and the general publics is even lower. My assumption is that because it is a mostly passive act, we are unable to truly see it as valuable facet of our lives.
Regardless, this blog isn't about the importance of sleep. It's about the reasoning behind why people can't sleep. The possible psychological causes of insomnia or at least difficulty sleeping. Obviously there are specific medical conditions that impact ones sleep, this is not what I am discussing in this blog.
My favourite theory is the one where it is believed peoples inability to sleep is due to the lack of productive and necessary tasks that they have completed during the day. As a result our brains don't allow us to sleep at night because we should have spent our time in the day on other things.
This relates nicely to the other proclamation of insomniacs, they're inability to control and stop their incessant thoughts. We have all laid in bed at night and been unable to sleep due to something playing on our mind. It's a very normal phenomenon. I have already written about the concept of distancing yourself from your thoughts and ultimately disattaching yourself from them. Unfortunately when you are trying to fall asleep, the lack of stimulation can make it more difficult to do this.
My solution, as it is too nearly all internal problems, is to open an honest dialogue with the higher self that exists within all of us. In order to see what is truly bothering us or impacting us at the moment. Whether that be something we should/need to say to someone we work with, something we have been putting off doing or something we need to revisit. I'm a strong believer that our psyches are trying to guide us in the best way forward that they know how. Unfortunately this can sometimes clash with other parts of our lives and cause appearingly unnecessary pain.
I had a conversation with a friend recently about a 'guiding light', something that we all need access to. My answer to them was almost immediate, 'we already have one in side us'. I truly believe this to be a fact of existence. One that is hugely under utilised nowadays by people. It probably has been under utilised in Western society for millenia, it is, after all, quite a jargonistic and voodoo term. So I don't blame the stigma around this kind of spirituality amongst people. It also goes against the concept that hard work and dedication will equate to results. If we had all the answers inside of us then what are we all doing this for...
I don't believe that we have all the answers inside of us, this is why we are a species and not a single entity in the universe. It is also why time progresses and evolves at a constant rate. We fix problems and as a result create new ones. That is the story of man and mankind. There will never be a lack of problems in our lives. There will however always be other people that can help, a universe watching over you and power so undeniable inside of you that it will continually manifest itself until you can see it.
Always try and pay attention to your actions, thoughts and feelings in life. See what happens and take it from there. As long as you truly want an answer to a question, either you or the universe will provide you with one. You just have to trust and believe.
There is so much to talk about on this topic and I've just realised that I started the blog talking about sleep and somehow got to this. Crazy haha. Either way, it came naturally to me so I'm going to run with it.
My final message is to trust in ourselves more, I don't believe this to be the same as a gut instinct. I think it's deeper than that, less tampered with and more genuine. Hold a thought in mind, ask a question. Then feel your body, and be open to any answers that come your way.
If you do this it may drastically improve your life, which will in turn improve your sleeping habits.
I hope you enjoyed the blog and found something about it pertinent to you.
Thank you for reading until the end.
