"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit The Earth"
We all know some 'meek' people, by a modern day definition they are introverted, calm, considered and are usually kind and warm. The biblical meaning of 'meek' is someone who is all the things above but also strong and courageous when necessary. 'Meek' people often go through life somewhat reserved and avoiding the limelight, not wanting to attract to much attention and enjoying the company of a single close friend or family member. A walk along the beach or in the woods is a highly energising activity for the introverted and sensitive person. Being present with nature and their surroundings is important to them and their peace of mind. Maybe they have a pet that they enjoy the company of deeply, a friend and a gift to spend time with and cherish.
As you get older you realise that it really is the simpler things in life that yield the most joy and meaning. The 'meek' person is aware that partying, drinking and hedonism have their place in life and do not reject that aspect of themselves. Neverthless they appreciate the beauty of nature, the simplicity of healthy food, and the care from a stranger more than their rambunctious neighbour. I believe that 'meek' people are wise enough from an early age to decipher what is truly important in life, this is one reason why 'they shall inherit the earth'.
Awful things happen to many people in this world, it can be a cruel and merciless place. I have frequently discussed the perennial issue of suffering and how we should all work together to mitigate the pain of others, and that in doing this the world would become a significantly better place. When something devastating happens to a quiet person they can often internalise their pain and appear to be coping far better than they truly are; this is not to say that they are not feeling as much as someone else.
The truly 'meek' person can carry on with life in a way that will leave you astounded, cope with caring for others and dealing with their inadequacies, all whilst fighting a personal battle beyond your imagination. Think of any true super hero and you will see this story play out, Spiderman is a great example. For me this is the true test of one's character and moral quality, can you be courageous and considered when necessary. In my opinion there is no higher achievement for the character of an individual, to be able to balance and integrate these two aspects of themselves is essential to functioning well as a human being.
And as so if there is a God or a sentient energy force present in the universe, which there is becoming more and evidence to prove this to be the case, then 'the meek' person who has suffered will always be looked out for. Despite their internal pain and suffering they still choose to act in a way that will help others and improve our existence. This is nothing short of a miracle and another reason why 'they shall inherit the earth'.
So if you're reading this and you can relate to what has been written, know that you are wiser than you realise, more imortant than you know and looked out for in more ways than you deem possible.
Until next time,
