Why we should give a f**k. For OS and AU
Anyone can fall victim to nihilistic thoughts and urges, it is quite understandable given the lives we all lead. There is enough suffering internally and externally for all of us to warrant this outlook to some degree. I have mentioned the elements of suffering many times in my blogs, I do this because I believe that it is useful to discuss the difficulties that life presents us with openly and candidly. I do this because it is the truth and although right now you may not be struggling in life, you will probably be one day. And even if you are not, someone you care for is, and for lots of us that is in some ways just as hard. Once we have comprehended the nature of existence right down to its darkest depths we can then enjoy the opposite when it manifests itself. This also applies to the human soul.
"The life of every individual, viewed as a whole and in general, and when only its most significant features are emphasized, is really a tragedy; but gone through in detail it has the character of a comedy"
This quote from Arthur Schopenhauer, a German philosopher, highlights the point of this blog ideally.
One thing I have learnt in my life is that humour is more powerful than we can verbally articulate. It is an example of something where the significance of it is embodied and lived rather than articulated. In times of deep distress and despair a bit of humour can help you transcend your suffering and elevate you above your predicament in ways that other tactics cannot.
The two people that this blog is for are good examples of this statement, they are both funny and switched on to their environment. They embody 'The Trickster' archetype and like all comedians they see between the lines of situations and people, discovering truths that most of us are blind to. There is great merit in reframing the tragedy of life in a comedical way. I do not mean by lessening the pain that one feels or downplaying the signifcane of an occurence, I mean allowing humour to continue to live in the moment when all hope seems lost and life has kicked you in the stomach repeatedly.
Anyway, why should we care about anything if we are just going to die? The simple answer is, if you act like nothing has any meaning then nothing will have any meaning and you will suffer, which is a meaning... You know this is true because what do people say when they are depressed "What's the point, my life is meaningless". Do they have no meaning in life because they are depressed or are they depressed because they have no meaning in their life? It isn't obvious.
Another answer is that the world needs our individuality more than we realise. Humans are not simply isolated beings existing amongst other isolatied beings. We are a living network of sorts, connected in ways that we are all blind to; just as the ocean could not exist without every single drop. The world is a truly better place when just one person chooses to aim towards truth and love, conversely it is a worst place when someone closes to aim down. This is something we still do not understand as a species and I hope we one day will.
My next blog is going to tell the story of Cain and Abel, it is a complex story that is relevant across multiple different dimensions.
Thank you for reading, hopefully you made it to the bottom you two.
