We can't stop the waves, but we can learn to surf
And surfers look pretty happy to me :)
The first thing about attempting to change or improve yourself, in a way that is desirable to you, is to accept that you have a difficulty that you wish to overcome. Acceptance is a near ubiquitous term nowadays. However telling someone to accept something is like explaining to someone what the gearbox in a car is and expecting them to drive to France. Not really possible.
Thankfully our brains are incredibly smart and are designed to adapt quickly to things. In essence acceptance involves very little effort. It's similar to the Toaist claim of taking the path of least resistance, combined with an underlay of our ability to only change certain things in our lives.
Acceptance is something that we develop during our lives and as we mature/gain new experiences. It's something that I am still trying to develop more of on a daily basis. Despite it being hard sometimes, it does breathe an air of freedom into our lives and souls. Once the self constructed cage of resentment, anger and fear collapses around us we can be truly free.
I'm going to try and write some shorter blogs for a while now. I also might start some mini series' discussing a specific part of a topic. With the goal of increasing the upload frequency.
I hope you enjoyed this blog. Let me know what you think in the comments.
