With great responsibility, comes great power
No I haven't got that the wrong way round, for anyone thinking I have. I recently went through and rewatched the original Spider-man trilogy from the early 2000's. These films were highly influential in my childhood growing up and looking back now as a young man I can see that they have also had an impact on the man I have become. I love these films, I love Spider-man.
Another hero of mine, who has been inaccurately branded across many sectors, is Jordan Peterson. He talks prolifically about the importance of taking responsibility for yourself and your life. To the point where he almost believes that the more responsibility you take on in life, the more fulfilled and content you will be.
Both ways of writing and perceiving the statement are true, the one spoken by Uncle Ben and the one unknowingly spoken by Peterson. But for the purpose of this video, the latter is what we're discussing.
'What is the meaning of life?' This question has been thrown around for centuries. I believe the meaning of life is individual to each person. We both are given a meaning of life through the aspects of the world that call to us in a powerful way. And we also chose our meaning of life through the choices and relationships we make.
Like all meaningful things in life, responsibility is both a gift and a curse. On one hand it provides you with meaning and an urge to get up and do what needs to be done. On the other hand, when life suddenly gets more difficult, you'll want to resist the urge even though there are still things that need to be done.
This is why with great responsibility comes great power, power over your destiny and the direction your life goes in; power over the person you and the people around you become. Worthwhile responsibility is what will drive you on during the cold and bitter mornings, it's what will fill you with joy and passion when the prospect of a worthwhile goal begins to actualise in front of your eyes.
This is the hidden magic of responsibility and the potential that lies within it.
I hope you enjoyed this blog. Until next time.
